My given name is Ashlee Lortie, and my Spirit name is Peetomeh kwe, meaning “Thunder Coming in the Distance”. I am a proud First Nations woman from the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation and have strong ties to Sagamok First Nation. Growing up, I learned the importance of family taking care of family and that family goes beyond our bloodlines. I learned early on that everything that surrounds us has a spirit. One of my gifts is the ability to organically connect with others on a deeper level intellectually, emotionally and with humility. I continue being a lifelong learner through research and education, but my greatest learning has come from supporting individuals and families on their wellness journeys. I take my role as a mother in fostering the next generation to have a strong sense of self and identity, knowing how many of our people are searching for their identity. Having the influence of strong women and my ancestors guides me to balance my soft nature.
